Ben Sheets at the Ballpark
Ben Sheets was at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday. Don’t get excited. Nothing is happening. He has not even started throwing yet.
Sheets, after agreeing to a two-year contract with the Rangers in late January, underwent surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow just before Spring Training. He ended up not signing with the Rangers and remains a free agent.
Sheets said he will be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday and is hoping to get clearance to start a throwing program. He has been working out in Arlington but it doesn’t seem like he’ll be ready anytime soon. In fact, it seems like it would be at least a couple of months, if at all this season.
“There’s really nothing new,” Sheets said. “I really don’t have any info for you.”
Sheets, who was visiting with pitching coach Mike Maddux, said he has no idea who he will be pitching for once he does get healthy.
“I don’t know,” Sheets said. “I haven’t even started worrying about that yet.”
Sheets and Maddux were together with the Milwaukee Brewers and remain close.
