NBC Saturday Night at the Movies….(Opinions from the Desert)

Sorry, just thinking back. When I was growing up, the best movies were always on NBC on Saturday night. Then they had the ABC Sunday Night Movie. Now we have HBO and TCM.

So since no NBC Saturday Night Movie…

* Right now the best looking shortstop in camp is Joaquin Arias and he ended a 6-4 victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday in Tucson with a strong throw after a backhand stop in the hole. Said Ron Washington, “That should answer any questions about his arm.”

* Travis Metcalf looks pretty good both at third base and the plate. He’s also getting a chance to play some first.

* Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Neftali Feliz on Saturday: “Really impressive. The ball comes out of his hand so smooth. It doesn’t look like he’s throwing 95…97…103. He just needs to be more consistent with his pitches down. His slider is good when he’s aggressive. His changeup…when you’re throwing 103 and you throw a mediocre or terrible changeup, it’s still going to be good if you just keep the ball down.”

* Feliz struck out four in two innings. He allowed a run on three hits with a walk. A double could have been caught because it was a high fly ball that landed on the warning track. But that’s because the wind blew it back into play.

* Derrick Turnbow got the win on Saturday with a strong seventh inning. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Still some concerns about his control and throwing strikes but he is off to a good start.

* Brandon McCarthy also needs to keep the breaking ball down but his velocity is good and he’s healthy.

As a kid I always loved “The Wonderful World of Disney.”

04-23-2004: Traded by New York Yankees (with Alfonso Soriano) to Texas Rangers for Alex Rodriguez.

Kind of ironic. The Rangers get two highly rated shortstops in trades for “A-Roid” and “Yankee-Tex”. However only one can play at a time.

Of course the Yankee-Tex trade resulted in more potential help (Feliz and Saltalamacchia) for the Rangers than the A-Roid trade. That is primarily because as d’god as reminded us so many times due to the loss of Soriano.

Correct me if i am wrong bobcatter, but Soriano was given to the Nationals for that player that everyone wanted, what’s his name again WILKERSON, thats it. Now some scout was evidently right about Gallarraga, yet we traded him to Detroit for someone we dumped off our roster. Lovely. Yes lets forget that one too, but it happened just less than 12 months ago. You never trade young pitching it is too risky. Maybe Daniels has learned not to do that, how can he forget he has been burned one too many times. Young, Gallarraga, Danks, Volquez. Yeah remember Volquez was a back end of the rotation type of pitcher who now has 17 wins under his belt. If he does that here, he is the staff ace. I don’t care about the feel good story of the year, Daniels does because if Hamilton hit a buck ninety nine, he would have been fired already. Please tell me i am wrong.

“Yes I will mrAnthony”. No you didn’t mrD’god. It took you less than 24 hours to revert to type. Very sad.

“Please tell me i am wrong.” – You’re wrong if you think an effective argument can include a hypothetical that compares an All-Star starter, MVP candidate to a sub .200 hitter. Hamilton did not fail, so what’s the point of this rhetorical question you keep posing?

I remember NBC Saturday night movie well, and still enjoy regular broadcasts. Never was a HBO guy, ever since they canceled Deadwood. Over the past 20 yrs. as a Ranger fan, I’ve been a consistent fan. And will die a Ranger fan probably! All I ask is that someday they will air Ranger broadcasts in Austin (190 miles away and blacked out of MLB). I was hopeful when the Rangers announced the Fan radio FM and thought at least now I’ll get to listen for free, but once again let down to reality. Actually the bleeding in an out KRLD comes in better here…..Even the spring caravan visit here was announced late so that attendance was impossible for guys that work for a living… Well once again there’s always next yr…. I just hope I’m not saying that about this years pitching as well. Deja Vu and pitching seem to be a symptom here again. I pray not. Sore, unable to get loose, tightness, strain, all over again. Draft more Texans that are use to the heat or kick them out of the frying pan.
