Young agrees to switch

Michael Young has agreed to switch to third base and drop his demand for a trade. This allows rookie Elvis Andrus to take over at shortstop and end a controversy that has swirled around the Rangers all week.

Good! But what a pity that the story was leaked (by Michael Young’s agent?) in the first place. Now the spotlight falls on Elvis Andrus. He has to perform good and he has to perform quick, or he’ll be in everybodies cross-hairs. It’s a lot of pressure to place on a young man’s shoulders.

I’m glad that cooler heads prevailed. Hopefully everyone will be successful at their new positions so we don’t have any “I told yous”.

Young is the consumate team player. He had a gripe, he voiced his opinion and he moved on and accepted the decision. He will have to make the adjustment that others have done and he will do it well. Lets all hope this move works out and helps bring a championship to the Rangers.

Hopefully Ryan told Young, look we love you but you really don’t have a dog in this fight, we hold all the cards. Frank is a hero of mine and don’t think for one minute that we won’t suspend you…….Translation, keep quiet and we will trade you when the time is right. No one wants to pay you the money you are making right now and we are not going to pay 1/2 of your salary. If we struggle out of the gate i believe Young, Millwood, Padilla and Blalock get dealt by ASB. Just one person’s opinion.

I am glad that everything is settled for now. I am glad Nolan got involved and made Michael see the plan from a different perspective. JD and Wash had better watch their butts for now on. Both of their leashes just got a little shorter. This is exactly the reason that Michael Young is the player and person he is and why he is a fan favorite and the team Captain. He thought for himself for a very short time before putting his pride aside and doing what was best for the team. All sports teams could use a player like Michael Young. Matter of fact that is type of players the Cowboys need to turn their ship around. Well, Now that all of this stuff is behind how about sign a starting picther or 2.

I agree slippy, but this guy is a “team player” ha. When he volunteered to play short stop, he made a ton of money by doing so. Do not think for one minute that wasn’t a major factor in his decision. The bottom line is he is an “employee”, the State of Texas is a right to work state. Most if not all employers have the right to dictate what you do under their employ. Even though Young is a highly paid millionaire, he still has to do what us other employees has to do, the bidding of their employer. His options if he doesn’t like it, like ours is to leave and go elsewhere. Something that he verbally expressed he wanted. I personally believe that this is not over with yet and it would not surprise me that he is dealt. #1 because of his high salary, the Rangers overpaid for him to begin with. Once the economic situation gets more stabalized, Young will be desired by other clubs as he is now. If the Rangers struggle he will ask to be dealt again. All this is right now is to have peace and stability until the time is right. I want my third baseman to hit for power and drive in a ton of runs. Kinsler in my opinion fits better over there. It wasn’t too long ago that Blalock was over there hitting for power. The Rangers understand this and have overpaid for a third baseman that doesn’t hit for power. He will be moved no matter what is being stated publicly. The timing just isn’t right…. I am all for it as long as we #1 get some top prospects preferably some young pitchers and we don’t pay 1/2 of his salary to make the deal…..
