Borbon does sign
The Rangers have signed University of Tennessee outfielder Julio Borbon. They just didn’t announce it on Wednesday night. But they did get it done. Go figure

You got scooped by Evan Grant. Please!! I am all for re-building this franchise with all of these draft picks. But, it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans, because when these guys get ready to play for us and turn into a player. Hicks won’t pony up and pay them. It is in our history. That is what i am ticked about. We developed Pudge, Rogers, Texiera and many others only to watch as they walked because we didn’t want to pay! When you develop a player or obtain a player, you don’t then let him walk, especially if they want to play here. Pudge went into the office, took less money to play here and then Hicks still screwed him! And he wonders why he isn’t winning. You can’t treat people like that. Pudge was productive and popular and did everything in the community. He was my neighbor, here in Grapevine and was and still is a nice guy and a great player. But the Rangers said he was only going to catch for 2 to 3 more years. That was about 10 years ago. We haven’t had a catcher since he left! He was the best. At least we could say we had the best at something. What do we have now that is the best? Best Rotation, No, Best Outfield No, Best Owner No, Best GM, No, Best Manager No. Best bullpen, maybe! Of course they are in the game by the 3rd inning so they have lots of practice. Hating on Rangers Ownership and Management. Go Cowboys!!! i can’t wait to when the football season starts and their is about 10 people out at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. What a Brand Name Hickyboy. You could use some meaningful baseball. What channel are the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Diamondbacks and A’s on???
Seriously dwidregod, I am getting tired of your attitude on this board. Everybody knows that you don’t like Tom Hicks, and that you don’t know anything about baseball, and that you think the answer to everything is to spend as much money as possible on every player who has ever put on a Rangers’ jersey. The Rangers screwed up by not drafting well and reaching for too many straws, and now they are trying to fix things the RIGHT way. Give them a chance. If things aren’t on the right course in the next couple of years then go ahead and gripe all you want.
Thanks for being the voice of reason. Some people need to get back on their meds.
Good Job brianpotter, dwidregod always says the same stuff over and over, the guy is an idiot and complains about the same garbage. He is an idiot just like T-Mac on the Rangers blog. I remember dwidregod said before he was not going to post in here anymore. I wish he would not. It gets old guy! Get a life and go watch your sorry cowgirls!
I’m really getting tired of Willie “Err”.
You know, guys, I agree dwidregod has an attidude on the boards. I don’t agree with a lot of what he says, for example his hairbrained idea that Michael Young should move back to 2nd base. But you know what, on this issue, he’s right. We’ve all watched the Rangers do this time and time again in the last few years, develop or accqire good players, and then let them leave because TOM HICKS does not want to pay them. Case in point: Carlos Lee. We were told he would be re-signed in the off-season to continue to protect Teixeira. Instead, we wound up with Frank Catalanotto, Lee wound up in Houston, and Tex’s lack of protection behind him in the lineup was a big part of his early season slump. Do I even need to mention Gary Matthews Jr.?
Rangers fans have suffered through a lot of frusteration. Especially over the past few years. And while people like dwidregod may say the same things over and over again, it’s only from the frusteration of seeing the same cycle of losing repeat over and over. I can only hope that this time, the Rangers will actually commit to this youth movement they’ve started, and this team will start winning down the road – even if it does take 4 or 5 years.
Bottom line, dwidregod’s entitled to his opinion (as are all of you), even if you don’t like the way he says it. I do agree, he could use to tone down the attitude a little, but I have to say, this time, on this issue, I agree with him.
“What channel are the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Diamondbacks and A’s on???”
ESPN. Do you follow baseball?
Hey a potter and a veteran are against me. Hey Potter you aren’t my parent, i would invite you to keep your personal attacks to yourself before, i get Viperscoach to sue your butt for libel and slander. Well, guys i was going to quit, but T.R. told me not to. I say the same things over and over again, because the same things are happening that have been happening. Yeah i have attitude, because i am not a sheep like potter and veteran. I would also invite you to look at my college year book, that shows me as a starting catcher for a major university during my college daze. Having said that, i would say that proves up my authority to criticize. Also, I played the great game of baseball ever since i was 8 years old until i was 22. That is about 14 years of experience and i played on many competitive teams, winning titles including a State Championship when i was a Teenager. So be right in your criticism and don’t throw things out there that you know nothing about. In any endeavor, you cannot train people have them be productive and then let all of them walk, just because you don’t want to pay them! I am tired of our key guys walking just over finances. If you want to play that game, then get out as an owner. I am for the re-building, but once we re-build WE NEED TO RETAIN THE REBUILDERS. Not necessarily all of them, but definitely the players that are key, like the Pitchers, the Catcher, the 2Baseman, the Shortstop and Centerfielder. You have to be strong up the middle. If you aren’t you ain’t gonna win! And i am emboldened by criticism, and i won’t quit. If i were looking for public support then i might have been a potter or a veteran, not a police officer. So watch it with the threats before, i call the po/po. Ha Ha.
PS, i will be nice. But please don’t call me an idiot. I do have feelings and that was very hurtful. I also know enough about baseball, to be dangerous. I know this Hicks is a baseball idiot. If he weren’t he would have hired a true legitimate baseball man, like Herzog, the white rat, to run the team and oversee the re-build.
FINALLY! I thought I was the only one tired of listening to dgod. When you call some one an idiot what is wrong with some one thinking the same thing about you. If Hicks is an idiot at least he is a rich idiot. One thing, every post you write confirms my beliefs. Go to the cowgirl web site and tell them all about their problems. BTY dgod you missed something else the Rangers do have. Fair weather fans like you.
Batts where would you be without me. I am just having fun. I want the Rangers to win. I am excited about the youth movement and want the Rangers to stick to the plan. However, i don’t want to see all of these young players walk when some of them do turn into great players, just because Hickey doesn’t think it is financially feasible. Most all of the competitive teams, find a way to keep the players they have developed. Even Minnesota does and they reportedly don’t have any money. The word that sums this up is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. All it does is delay the competition for a World Series Title. I am personally excited about what Gabbard and Rheinecker have done as starters. I would like to see what Wilson could do as a starter. In the end, i am just like the rest of you guys. I want us to win. I think the way to do it is re-build, don’t sign Hunter or any other free-agents in the off season, unless it is somebody like Byrd or Monroe. One of the lesser tier guys. I think we have all seen that spending huge amounts on other teams free-agents isn’t the way to do it.
Last I checked, this wasn’t a let’s-call-each-other-names blog.
Anyway, one thing we can agree is that we’re all Rangers fans and we want what’s best for the team. Personal perceptions of “what’s best” may vary but that’s no reason to start bickering like 6-year olds.
Do I think Hicks is an “idiot”? No. He’s a fan too. He loves this team. One thing he lacks is patience. He hasn’t been able to stick to a plan. As soon as he sees the Rangers hovering around .500 in July, he starts thinking World Series. But in my opinion, what’s best for this team, is that he learns to be more and more patient.
He already got a bitter taste of what it’s like spending like George Steinbrenner. But spending like him isn’t going to win you titles (0-for-6 this millenium). And spending like him in a market not as big as New York makes the disappointment even greater.
Complaining about him isn’t going to fix this team. Insults won’t do the job either. We can only hope that he has learned his lesson. I’m sure he’s reminded of it every time he picks up his pen and writes a check to the New York Yankees.
