The Elysian Fields Greatest team of All-Time

All-Stars? Did somebody say it’s time for an All-Star Game?

How about this team, which obviously plays home games somewhere in the corn fields of Iowa. This has to be the Greatest Team of All-Time and don’t even try to argue the 1927 New York Yankees or the Big Red Machine.

Come on, this team has it all:  great pitching, speed and incredible power, especially at the last moment with the game on the line.

Let’s face it, some of the All-Stars have come through with some of the biggest hits in the history of baseball, whether it was a home run that blew out the lights above the right field stands or a bunt down the third baseline.

Lot of catchers on this team too. Why is that?

P – Henry Wiggins (Michael Moriarity, Bang the Drum Slowly)200pxthenatural

Not a bad group — but is there any chance I could have that Mantle guy from 61*?

-M.

How about a lineup?

1. cf Willie Mays Hayes

2. lf Kelly Leak

3. c Dottie Henson

4. rf Roy Hobbs

5. 1b Jack Elliot

6. 3b Doris Murphy

7. dh Pedro Cerrano

8. 2b Marla Hooch

9. ss Louis Keystone

Rotation:

1. Al Fowler

2. Nuke Laloosh

3. Billy Chapel

4. Bingo Long

5. Kit Keller

Bullpen:

Closer: Rick Vaughn

Setup: Jim Morris (my addition)

Setup: Henry Wiggins

Setup: Harry Willete

Long Relief: Amanda Whurlitzer (let the kid build up her arm strenght before moving into the rotation in a year or so)

1. Henry Wiggin has to be the No. 1 starter. He was a 20-game winner for the Mammoths
2. Joe Hardy has to be in the lineup. Come on, remember, he sold his soul.

One more – DH – The Whammer although he did get struck out by Roy Hobbs.

Not a real strong infield. How about adding a few more:

Who’s on first?

“Who”

“The first baseman – What’s his name?”

“Who”

The frist baseman, the guy playing right by first base!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!……………
